Title:
Pima County Comprehensive Plan Amendment to the Water Resources Regional Plan Policies-Integrating Water Resources and Land Use

Speaker:
Kathy Chavez
Water Policy Manager, Pima County Regional Flood Control District

Date:
Thursday, September 20th, 2007, 12:00 to 1:30 pm

Pima County is proposing to amend the Water Resources Element Regional Plan Policies of the Comprehensive Plan Update. Comments on the proposed amendment are being accepted through September 27. The goals of the proposed amendment are to:

  • Provide more information about the impacts and sustainability of water resource development to land-use decision makers
  • Promote reliance upon renewable and potable water supplies
  • Minimize adverse impacts of water supply development upon existing residents of Pima County
  • Protect the groundwater dependent ecosystems of Pima County, including springs, perennial and intermittent streams and shallow groundwater areas

Ms. Chavez, Water Policy Manager since 2005, develops and implements water policy and programs for Pima County through the Regional Flood Control District.  In that capacity she has developed water conservation ordinances for new construction and a drought response plan for unincorporated Pima County that were approved by the Board of Supervisors in 2006. Ms. Chavez leads the County’s drought monitoring committee and is currently working on an amendment to the County’s Comprehensive Plan Update to incorporate water policies linking water resources and land use decisions.

All seminars are held at the Sol Resnick Conference Room, Water Resources Research Center, 350 N. Campbell Ave.
