CDE Fall Planning Workshop - Saturday October 10, 2009

Introduction

Teams competing in the 2010 State Agricultural Mechanic CDE must have registered with Arizona FFA by the required deadline. Teams not listed on the pre-registration will not be allowed to participate. No walk-up registrations will be accepted.

All students competing in the State Agricultural Mechanic CDE must come dressed appropriately to compete in this activity. All competitors will be wearing appropriate clothing and footwear. This includes long pants and closed-toed shoes. All competitors will bring and wear safety glasses for this activity.

All competing teams will be required to check in with Arizona FFA outside of the Meats Laboratory Building at the Campus Agriculture Center on the day of the event. On-site registration for individuals and teams competing in the Agricultural Mechanics CDE will take place outside of Building 2008 (Agricultural Mechanics Lab, west of Meats Laboratory) prior to the start of the CDE. On-Site Registration forms will be completed by the team members, and contestant numbers will be assigned. The first fifteen teams to register on-site will participate in the first round of the Group Activity. The second group of fifteen teams to register on-site will participate in the second round of the Group Activity. Upon completion of the Group Activity, individual contestants will be assigned to Rotation Groups. Contestants must remain with their assigned Rotation Group throughout the duration of the CDE. Team coaches and advisors may collect tools used for the Group Activity at the completion of the Group Activity Rotation.

Written Exam

For 2010, the Written Exam will be divided into two parts. Part one will consist of 45 questions and will be administered on-line during a time period to be announced. Part two will consist of 45 questions and will be administered on-site during the CDE.


Group Activity

  • The Group Activity will be divided into two sections. The first section will begin after the first fifteen teams complete on-site registration. Directions will be given to the teams when to begin and when time has expired. Teams will be given 30 minutes to complete the activity. Coaches and advisors may collect tools after the Group Activity is completed.

Contestants should come prepared to work during each skill/problem solving activity. Cotton clothing, long sleeve shirts, long pants, leather shoes, and industrial quality eye protection must be worn during all skill and problem solving activities. Contestants cannot wear frayed clothing when welding. Contestants will not be allowed to use any welding equipment without these items. Contestants cannot carry a cellular phone, pager or pda. Contestants are encouraged to bring along two #2 lead pencils, and a clipboard. A calculator will be provided for the Written Exam.
