Hints to Scientific Writing: 'Methods' Section

The Methods section should provide enough detail for someone to ascertain the quality of the approach taken and also enable someone to duplicate the work.  This section should not contain a listing of materials.  Describe the conditions (dates, location, environmental conditions, etc) under which the study was conducted as well as the procedures (and in doing so the materials used).  Some authors dedicate a portion of this section to a description of the study area and/or study organism.  End this section with a brief discussion of statistical analyses and if you desire you may list out the null and alternative hypotheses that were tested.
