Hints to Scientific Writing:
                                Usage of 'That' and 'Which'

The appropriate use of these two relative pronouns differs subtly.  The rule of thumb is that when a clause is set off from the rest of the sentence by a comma, 'which' is the appropriate word to use.  When the clause is not offset by a comma, then the use of 'that' is appropriate.  This is how the text of the manuscript currently reads.  The take-home message is: no comma, no 'which'
