Master Gardener Moody Demonstration Garden in Yuma

This talk is open to the public. Master Gardener Terrie Gent, and her tireless photographer, Bob Gent, will take you on a slide show tour of the Moody Garden in Yuma, Arizona. It was created by the Master Gardeners in Yuma County, Arizona to honor a former Agriculture Extension Agent. The images of the Moody Garden show how the Master Gardeners in Yuma used grant money to put a welcoming educational garden in what would have otherwise been an unused area of land near their County Extension Office. The garden shows a variety of ways to grow trees, food crops, annuals, ornamentals, and plants that use only rain water. It has features designed to create shade and amuse children of all ages. Come and get ideas for your own garden or suggestions about how to put a demonstration garden at your school, neighborhood, or church. In addition, Terrie will show some slides of lettuce fields in Yuma to give you ideas about how to maximize the planting areas in your own veggie patch or flower bed.

The Hummingbirds of South America

This talk is open to the public. Mr. Tom Woods, Director and Naturalist from the Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory, will take us on a tour of the best places to see “hummers” in South America with a spectacular slide show of South American hummingbirds. We are rightly proud of our status as the top place in the US to see hummers, but our neighbors to the south can easily top us. Come see these slides of breathtakingly beautiful birds. You can also learn more about how to make your yard a more welcoming habitat for these extraordinary avians.

Mushrooms and Other Plants Native to Cochise County

This talk is open to the public. Be ready to ooh! and aah! Bob Herrmann has agreed to return with photos of native plants in Cochise County. How better to get ready for fall than a talk about mushrooms and the plants that look their best just before winter. His flower pictures are absolutely stunning. Bob waits patiently to capture the beauty around us taking photos when the blossoms, birds, and insects are their most photogenic.
