FOCUS ON FACULTY:
Congratulations to Rob Grumbles who received an award for his many years of service in the planning and production of the Utah/Arizona Range Workshop. The workshop commemorated its 30 th anniversary this year with a celebration in St. George and Kanab.
Appreciation goes to Al Fournier and the many other faculty who helped put on this year's National Plant Diagnostic Workshop. About 35 attended. In addition, I want to thank the SWIAA Livestock Field Day Planning Committee, especially Gerald Moore , for another terrific event. About 150 people attended the event at the Hon-Dah Resort-Casino Conference Center .
INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY SURVEY RESULTS – Week 1 of 7:
In December 2007, the Arizona Cooperative Extension State Office conducted a survey in a continuing effort to assess the information and technology needs within Arizona Extension. A total of 169 responses were received overall, a response rate of approximately 56%. Of the respondents, 127 or 75% completed the entire survey. The respondents were roughly split evenly between faculty and classified staff; 46% were faculty and 51% were staff. 1% identified themselves as appointed personnel and 2% chose other. 72% of the respondents identified themselves as being off campus, with the rest on campus. Also, 72% worked completely for Extension, with the remainder including Research and Academic work. The survey was conducted using SurveyMonkey.com. Links to the survey were sent in email lists, and also included in the weekly Extension email newsletter. Responses were collected over a period of approximately three weeks. Within the survey, there were sections for basic demographic information, existing infrastructure/services (Extension provided, CALS provided, UA provided), new information and technology needs, use of non-University tools, and clientele access to technology. All questions required an answer.
Over the next 7 weeks (including this week) we will provide a series of notes regarding the results of the survey. The complete summary document is available upon request. To request the document or ask questions, contact Sheila Merrigan (520.626.6543) or Robert Armstrong (520.621.3982).
