2008 FACULTY CONFERENCE REGISTRATION IS OPEN:

The registration deadline for the 2008 Faculty Conference, August 19-21, at the Omni Tucson National Resort (2727 West Club Drive, Tucson) is just 10 days away (Friday, July 25). You can still register at http://cals.arizona.edu/registration/FC2008/ and find a tentative agenda and options for poster sessions, seminars on wheels (Biosphere 2, BIO5, Campus Agricultural Center, McClelland Park) and a place to request pre- or post-conference and association and working group meetings. For questions or further information, contact a Planning Committee Co-Chair (Mike Ottman, Jan Norquest, Dan McDonald) or support staff (Sandra Saad, Steven Crofts, Patti B. – 520.621.7205). There is also a link to the registration site through the main CALS Web site page (under "CALS highlights and activities").

EXTENSION BRAND VALUE RESEARCH:

The National Cooperative Extension System is asking for Extension employee, volunteers and client participation in some brand value research. This research is being conducted through a 15-minute online survey. They need about 25-30 people from each state to go to the survey Web site and complete the interview -- preferably a mix of employees, volunteers and clients. The survey is only open until this Friday, July 18, so please take a few minutes to complete it.

NEW PUBLICATION:

A new publication is available – Arizona Ground Water -- Source and Transport Characteristics by Kristine Uhlman.

INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY SURVEY RESULTS – Week 6 of 7:

Overall Conclusions:
Overall, it seems faculty and staff are fairly well versed in technology they feel they need. However, a better understanding of what is available is desired.
Next Steps:
Primary focus should be:
  1. Research how to deliver workshops, presentations and classes online
  2. Provide training on Internet-based workshops, presentations, surveys and classes
  3. State Office personnel need to continue to correspond and collaborate with technical experts, both on and off campus
  4. Provide training from UA librarians for accessing and using UA Library materials and services to faculty
  5. Keep faculty and staff informed, but no training provided unless requested) on technology currently available and future possibilities. Suggest more information on blogs, podcasts, and RSS feeds be high priority
Presentation of Results:
Results of the survey are summarized in this report, as well as a PowerPoint slide presentation and a poster presentation. The PowerPoint presentation was given by Sheila Merrigan at the 2008 USAIN (US Agricultural Information Network) conference, April, 2008. The poster presentation was given by Robert Armstrong at the 2008 NETC (National Extension Technology Conference), April 2008. The results of the survey may be presented in a Breeze conference. If interested, please contact Sheila Merrigan or Robert Armstrong. This completes the 7 week series results of the Information and Technology Needs survey.

This is the final part of a 7 week series to provide results of the Information and Technology Needs survey. The complete summary document is available upon request. To request the document or ask questions, contact Sheila Merrigan (520.626.6543) or Robert Armstrong (520.621.3872).
