Below is a current listing of Safety related training topics and their descriptions.

    S1: An Introduction to Safety and Young Children - 75 minutes (1.25 hours)
     Participants will be able to identify factors that affect the safety and wellbeing of children in the early childhood setting.
     
    S2: Safe Transportation - 60 minutes (1.0 hours)
     Participants will be able to create policies that reflect criteria for safe transportation of children in group settings.
     
    S3: Playground Safety - 90 minutes (1.5 hours)
     Participants will be able to identify factors that affect the safety of children during outdoor activities and on playground equipment.
     
    S4: Poisons - 45 minutes (0.75 hours)
     Participants will be able to identify potential poisons, describe emergency poisoning procedures and contribute to develop policy for the management and handling of potential poisons at the early childhood site.
     
    S5: Environmental Health - 60 minutes (1.0 hours)
     The participant will be familiar with potential environmental health risks in early childhood.
     
    S6: Medication Management - 75 minutes (1.25 hours)
     Participants will be familiar with components of safe management and administration of medications in the early childhood setting.
     
    S7: Sun Safety - 120 minutes (2.0 hours)
     Participants will be able to increase the caregiver's level of awareness regarding the risks of overexposure to the sun, identify "best practice" sun-safety strategies for the early childhood program, develop written policies that reduce sun-exposure risks in the early childhood environment, implement strategies that reflect sun-safety policies, and facilitate activities that introduce sun safety concepts to young children.
     
    S8: Fire Safety - 45 minutes (0.75 hours)
     Participants will be able to identify the factors that place children or adults at risk of fire danger and burns in the early childhood setting and know applicable procedures and practices to reduce these fire risks.
     
    S9: Documentation Basics - 45 minutes (0.75 hours)
     Participants will identify documentation formats appropriate for documenting events, health criteria, growth and development and other information applicable to early childhood settings.
     
    S10: Safe Infant Sleep - 90 minutes (1.5 hours)
     Participants will demonstrate knowledge of the characteristics and risk reduction steps for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
     
    S11: Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting - 90 minutes (1.5 hours)
     Participants will be able to list and define four types of child maltreatment, be aware of potential indicators of child abuse and neglect, report suspected abuse and neglect, and know what information to include in child abuse and prevention reporting policies.
