CALS Student Appointed Arizona National Livestock Show Ambassador
Cheyanne Keith, a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Ambassador, has been selected as the Arizona National Livestock Show Ambassador. She will begin her position in June, 2013. Keith is majoring in agricultural technology management and education and plans to graduate after finishing her student teaching next spring.
The Arizona National Livestock Show takes place annually in Phoenix and is one of the largest livestock shows in the Southwest. Its mission is to support youth by “promoting livestock and agriculture to the public.” The non-profit association also provides scholarships to youth who have previously participated in the Arizona National Livestock Show.
Keith has participated in the Arizona National Livestock Show and is actively involved in the livestock community. In high school she took part in the Pearce livestock 4-H club. Now she is a member of the UA Collegiate Cattle Growers Association and participates regularly in the Arizona National Livestock Show. Keith is also a member of Sigma Alpha, an agricultural sorority, as well as a mentor to novice livestock showmen.
Keith’s participation in the Arizona National Livestock Show includes showing swine, cattle, and judging livestock. She has volunteered in the Open Cattle Shows, Judging Contest, and Swine Department and has competed with her goats at the county fair and the state fair. As an ambassador for the show, Keith will act as a spokesperson at community events, agriculture industry and county fairs. Keith will also receive a $2,000 scholarship as part of the ambassador program.
Several additional CALS students will also receive a scholarship awarded by the Arizona National Livestock Show Scholarship Program: Rachel Claus-Walker, Mariana Hudson, Kaitlyn Parks, Sylvalyn Simpson, Breanna Watkins and Jessica Zamudio.
The association has awarded a total of $49,500 in scholarships for the 2013 academic school year and the recipients will later be honored at the 66th Arizona National Livestock Show Dedication on Dec. 27, 2013 at the Arizona State Grounds.
