SmartScape is pleased to offer practical landscape water conservation classes for the residents of Pima County and surrounding communities. All classes are based on the principles of Xeriscape and Best Management Practices for creating and maintaining water-smart home landscapes.
Approximately 500 homeowners attend these classes each year to learn techniques and applications for water-efficient landscaping compatible with the urban Sonoran Desert landscape.
All classes are taught at the Pima County Cooperative Extension unless otherwise noted.

Residential Drip Irrigation
Learn how to assemble a basic drip irrigation system, maintain it, install a timer and develop a schedule for an automated irrigation system. Each participant receives a box of component parts (for use during the class) and learns how to correctly identify and assemble the parts. Programmable irrigation timers are also provided for in-class use to demonstrate ease in setting an irrigation clock. Registration required. Limit 18.
Desert-Wise Landscape Design Series

Join Landscape Designer Diana Turner for this informative and fun Hands-On workshop series! Each class focuses on one of the three critical components of water-efficient landscape design, following the logical process from design concept to finalizing the plan. Participants will gain practical knowledge and develop necessary skills to design their own desert-wise home landscape. Whether starting from scratch or renovating your landscape, applying these principles will help you create a sensible landscape for our arid urban environment. Participants should plan on bringing a basic site map of their garden drawn on graph paper. Registration is required. Limit 15.
Rainwater Harvesting Rebate Incentives Program (2 dates per month)

Join professional Rainwater Harvesting business owner Lincoln Perino for a close look at sensible, water-smart (and wallet-smart) rainwater harvesting systems for the home landscape. This informative workshop will focus on designing a passive and active rainwater catchment system for a residential landscape. The format is power-point lecture, hands-on activities (indoors & out), and facility tour. Bring a sketch or site plan of your property to work on during the workshop. Tucson Water is offering a rebate as incentives to install water harvesting on residential properties. This workshop is mandatory for those who want to qualify for the rebate. Registration is required.
Gray Water Rebate Class

June 15, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Did you know that 1/3 of typical household wastewater can be re-used as gray water for landscape plants? If you'd like to participate in Tucson Water's Single Family Residential Gray Water Rebate Program and receive reimbursement up to $1,000 when a permanent gray water irrigation system is installed in your home, then you must attend this 2-hour workshop. It focuses on design, operation and maintenance of a gray water system.
