David Holding  completed his bachelors degree in biochemistry at the University of Sussex, Brigton, UK in 1991. He then moved to Kings College London where he worked as a research assistant on T-DNA generated root mutants in Arabidopsis with Dr. Shirley Coomber. Between 1993 and 1997 he completed a PhD working on characterizing the leaf and chloroplast developmental mutant,  pale cress, also in Dr Coomber’s lab. Continuing with studying development in Arabidopsis, he moved to UC Riverside to work with Dr. Patty Springer. He was involved in initiating the generation of the UCR gene and enhancer trap collection which is used for identifying novel genes involved in a variety of processes by a number of different labs. During this time he also worked on the further characterization of the prolifera mutant. After initial screening of the UCR collection he identified and characterized VASCULAR PREPATTERN a very early marker for provascular specification in Arabidopsis. He joined the Larkins lab in April 2002 and will focus on understanding aspects of kernel development and storage protein synthesis using mutator tagged kernel mutants.
