| Brenda Hunter received her B.A. in Biology from Hamline University in 1977. She received her Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Minnesota in 1984. Her doctoral thesis examined the restriction site heterogeneity among the maize ribosomal RNA genes. This work was completed in the laboratory of Dr. Irwin Rubenstein. In 1984, Brenda joined the laboratory of Dr. Andrew Jackson at Purdue University, later relocating with the lab to the University of California, Berkeley. Her work involved the analysis of the structure and expression of the barley stripe mosaic virus genome. In 1988 Brenda began a second post-doc at UC Berkeley in the laboratory of Dr. Jack Morris. This work centered on the purification and characterization of strawberry crinkle virus. Since 1990, Brenda has worked as a Senior Research Specialist in the laboratory of Dr. Brian Larkins at the University of Arizona. Currently, Brenda is working on a project involving the comparison of the biochemical characteristics among opaque mutants of maize. |
