Paolo.jpg (23666 bytes) Paolo Sabelli is the first Italian in the lab, which he joined in 2000. He has previously worked with Peter Shewry at both the Rothamsted Experimental Station, Harpenden, and the Long Ashton Research Station, Bristol, on several aspects of endosperm development and regulation in cereal seeds. His research was focused on the analysis of seed storage gene families, genes involved in carbon metabolism and the identification of cell cycle regulators. He received a PhD from the University of Bristol (UK) in 1994. Subsequently, he was a Research Fellow at the Institute of Molecular & Cell Biology in Singapore, studying oxidative stress response in A. thaliana, and maize genes involved in the initiation of DNA replication and translation. His current research interest involves the regulation of the cell cycle in maize transformation and regeneration and in developing endosperm. He is particularly interested in understanding the role played by the retinoblastoma-E2F pathway in the mitotic cell cycle, endoreduplication, and in their coordination with cell differentiation, growth and development.
