The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension Service, in partnership with Tucson Water, is pleased to offer the Pima County SmartScape Program. This partnership, which began in 1989, focuses on landscape water conservation and education in the Tucson Active Management Area. SmartScape promotes best management practices based on Xeriscape principles for creating and maintaining healthy, water-efficient landscapes. The main objective of the program is to promote adoption of water-efficient landscapes and increase irrigation efficiencies in the residential, multi-family, commercial, and industrial water user classes. To meet this objective, informative classes are held throughout the year for landscape professionals and residential water users in the Tucson area. Ultimately, efficient water use in the landscape has the potential to create savings in water, costs, maintenance, and energy while promoting sustainability of our urban desert community.
Professional classes are intended to build capacity within the landscape industry to design, install, and maintain water-efficient landscapes.
Residential classes are designed to assist homeowners in making water-smart choices for their landscapes.
All classes are sponsored by Tucson Water and are FREE of charge.
