Focus:  Prevailing conditions where the urban landscape exists, selection of plants that will survive and do well there, and common plants in those landscapes.

Core Competencies:

  • Describe desert conditions – desert biomes
  • Give examples of plant adaptations to desert conditions
  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of native and introduced plant
  • Identify low-water use plants suitable for landscape use
  • Identify common invasive species and explain how “invasiveness” occurs in context of adaptations
