Focus:  Recognizing the various factors that cause plants to perform poorly or die in the landscape, and avoiding or remediating those problems

Core Competencies:

  • Communicate effectively with clients to determine if a plant problem exists
  • Distinguish between abiotic and biotic causes of plant problems
  • Investigate patterns
  • Recognize signs and symptoms
  • Use the plant disease triangle to reduce plant disease pressure in the landscape
  • Offer solutions to abiotic plant disorders such as sunburn, irrigation stress and salt burn
  • Offer solutions to biotic plant disorders, such as oleander leaf scorch, cotton root rot and root-knot nematodes
