Desordenes en Las Plantas/Plagas y Enfermedades @ UA/Pima County Cooperative Extension

Los estudiantes aprenderán acerca de algunos  de los organismos que afectan  a las plantas en los jardines.  Manejo Integral de pestes (IPM) y controles  culturales  serán  discutidos.

Esta clase se enfoca en: Reconocer los factores que causan que las plantas no se desarrollen sanas o mueran en los jardines. Y como evitar o corregir estos problemas.

Objetivos:

  • Comunicarse efectivamente con clientes para determinar si existe un problema en las plantas
  • Distinguir si las causas del problema es abiótico o biótico
  • Investigar las características del problema
  • Reconocerlas señales y los síntomas del problema
  • Hacer uso del triangulo de las enfermedades para reducir los problemas.
  • Ofrecer soluciones a los desordenes abióticos en las plantas tales como; quemaduras de sol, estrés causada por irrigación y quemaduras por sales.
  • Ofrecer  soluciones a los desordenes bióticos en las plantas, tales como scorch en los laureles, pudrición de la raíz en el algodón y nodos de la raíz causados por nematodos

Esta clase se enfoca en: Identificación de los insectos más comunes (pestes) y otras especies de animales que pueden representar un problema en los jardines; hábitat y condiciones climatológicas que atraen o repelen las plagas y enfermedades.

Objetivos: Explica porque el primer paso importante en el manejo de plagas y enfermedades es la identificación del problema

  • Familiarizarse con las plagas y enfermedades que causan mayor daño a las plantas.
  • Entender las herramientas de trabajo  más útiles y necesarias  en el área de trabajo.
  • Explicar cómo las tres  reglas de del IPM pueden ahorrarnos  tiempo y dinero
  • Saber dónde encontrar ayuda en la identificación y solución del  problema.

Control de Malas Hierbas/Graduación @ UA/Pima County Cooperative Extension

Esta clase se enfoca en:  Conceptos básicos de control de malas hiervas en jardines y campos deportivos (zacate)  (1) ciclo de vida de las hierbas y en que estación del ano aparecen  (2)  Entender el método más efectivo de cómo prevenir las hierbas  (pre-emergentes) y erradicación de hierbas  (post emergente)  (3)  Herbicidas selectivos  vs. Herbicidas no selectivos (4) formulaciones y recomendaciones especiales para su aplicación.

Objetivos:

  • Entender la terminología básica usada en el control de hierbas en los jardines
  • Entender los principios de los herbicidas
  • Describir y entender los principios básicos de herbicidas selectivos  vs. no selectivos
  • Identificar las hierbas más comunes en los jardines y campos deportivos (zacate)
  • Entender cuando un aditivo (adjuvant) es necesario para la aplicación.
  • Entender los requisitos en la aplicación de post-emergentes en relación con la irrigación.
